the lesson that taught me everything about platforms- i think :S

Today was a very interesting lesson. miss okeizi was talking alot about media platforms.

platforms is simply the way we receive media products. there are three main platforms, which include broadcasting, e-media and print.

broadcasting is sending radio and television contents to a large number of audience.
there are 6 main broadcasters- BBC, ITV,CHANNEL 4, FIVE, BSKYB, VIRGIN MEDIA.
I was told to talk about channel five, and found that it was the baby of the teriestral channels. and was broadcasted on the 30th of march.

BBC is one of the oldest programme which informs, entertains and educates the audience.

Channel 4 goes Beyond moving images and was broadcasted on the 2nd of november  1982 at 4:45(apparently).

to be continued....

This shows how you shouldn't be tricked into what you see in adverts.
The advert (Dove) represents how institutions manipulates a photo.

Thursday 5 November 2009

A-level media is kinda complicated but it’s also interesting. So far, I have learnt the 3 media platforms, which includes e-media, print and Broadcast. Media platform is simply the technology through we receive media products.

media representations- Who is being represented?

in what way?

why is the subjects being represented in this way etc?

Media language- connotations and denotations?

the significants of settings/lighting etc.

what sound and visual techniques are used to convey meaning. e.g. camera positioning,

how the images and sounds have been combined?

Narrative- How is this structured and organised?

how is the audience positioned in relation to the narrative?

what are the roles of features?

Genre- what genre fits into the text that it is belonged to?

what are the major themes of the genre?

how does the audience relate to this specific genre?

institutions- is the source a public service or commercial institutions?

what difference does this institution make?

who controls the institution/ does this matter?

values and ideology- what are the major vales and ideology?

does the text fir into this?

what criteria have been used to show this?

Audiences- what is the target audience?

how does the scheduling and positioning affect the assumptions of the audiences?

how do you the size of the audience?

Media achievements

Well, today i found out i got a D2 in my end of term assesment. which isnt as good as what i thought it would be. However as an independent worker it could have gone worst :)

Targets i will set myself:
1- be in a positive mode :)
2- Remember to work at home, at least an hour + a half at least.
3-listen to what needs to be heard. :D
Last term i thought i did ok, my folder is in perfect condition which is filled with notes which are sutibale for revision.
for my mocks i am aiming for a much higher grade.
the key concepts helped me through the year as i found them hard to work on in the beginging as they were more detailed and more efficient, however as i went over them and kept working hard i found them easier to explain and much useful.

what has media done to me?

Hello,
My name is Rawan; Im 16 and i am currently studying A-Level media in 'Burlington Danes Academy Sixth Form'. i studied media for TWO years for GCSE's and achieved a grade B which is good as i thought i wouldnt achieve anything above a D lol. i proved them wrong :D
i have seen a major difference in GCSE'S and A-Levels.

How much knowledge can be provided in this site?
A lot of knowledge can be provided as i have been studying the subject and have gone through all the key concepts to do with media and explored the way media has been used in the society.

An example of this is Representation, Ideology, Institution, genre, Language, Narrative, and Audience

My media Journey…
My media journey has given me a chance to explore ways in which media has changed our lives.
As you should know media is not just television, magazines and newspapers, it is also about the society and how the media influences us.
